Quite and lonely paradise for chilling and enjoying the beach. Bluff beach is terrific and the hikes around. Wonderful staff!

Hotel hidden in the jungle with ocean view and private beaches - perfect place to rest. Lovely staff - owners Matthew and Diana are very helpful and makes you feel like at home. Good prices, marvelous food, awesome drinks. HIGHLY RECOMMEND to stay there! You can get there by a bus (3 USD) or take a cab that is no more than 15 dollars.

Note that I think the property is under new ownership/management and some kinks may be getting worked out. My general impression of Tesoro was that the website and pricing did not quite match what the reality was. Our room looked significantly different than the pictures on the website (for example, instead of there being the pictured couch in the room there were two metal patio chairs and an outdoor table crammed into a corner). Pictures made it look like a well appointed rustic cabin, the reality was more of a poorly constructed wooden shack with a profusion of bugs. Being in a jungle and knowing that it’s a rustic building style I do expect bugs, but the amount of ants made keeping food in the kitchenette slightly problematic, the amount of cockroaches (both dead and alive) was a bit unappealing, and the quite large scorpion wandering about the room was a bit unnerving. Getting to town can be a bit of a task, either a 1.5 hour walk or $20 in cab fares. I guess there is also a directo that goes up the bluff road but there wasn’t really any information presented about times/details. This wouldn’t really be a problem, except that for food they offer only breakfast and a single meal for dinner. The quality of the food was fine, but essentially something I would make myself for dinner for half the cost cooked by a group of work-trade travelers at normal restaurant pricing. I would suggest that the property collect some bicycles, surf boards, snorkel gear, etc, as finding anything like that anywhere nearby was difficult, and with it being slightly remote it would seem like a good idea to have on site. At the least, an agreement with a local company that could drop things off would seem like a beneficial arrangement to me. Overall, I think there are better values in this Bluff region that offer nicer accommodations with a more full service facility. While the property is interesting and the location is very beautiful it seems to, in my opinion anyway, need either significant improvements to be brought into line with some of the newer hotels that have been built or a reduction is pricing and updating to their website to more accurately reflect the present state of the property. Again, as i understand it, while I was there the owners had just purchased the place and I did see them both actively working on improvements. I’m not sure what their background was (my own is in hospitality and construction) but it’s a quite large property and I am sure there is a steep learning curve there.

Great host, very relaxing place to stay. Homemade food and breakfast. The staff is kind and helped us on every request. Beach is ideal for surfing, not so much for snorkelling Taxi from the city is 15 usd per travel (not per person). Local bus (Centro - Playa Bluff) is about 3 usd. Dont be fooled by local people, they tend to change the prices according to your face.
